[edit source]Status: Handled by other means
- Requesting user: Ganesha811 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
- Resource link and title: The story of Tun Perak by Buyong bin Adil, published 1957 (link)
- Link to request on RX: Out of scope, as I am requesting the full book.
I've long had the article Tun Perak on my list for improvement, and aim to do that project this summer. While I can access most good academic works on the Malacca Sultanate and Malay history via the Wikipedia library and interlibrary loan, this one seems inaccessible without purchasing it - no digital copy appears to exist. Thank you! —Ganesha811 (talk) 01:52, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Ganesha811: Hi, thanks for your request! Noting that I've added a new FAQ section on the full books question, and I think your description is sufficient given that the book is entirely about the subject you plan to write about. One concern: I don't see any options for purchase on the link provided. Do you know where this is would be available? Best, RAdimer-WMF (talk) 03:30, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- @RAdimer-WMF: I have found two places where I think we can buy or borrow a copy: Google Books and the National Library Board of Singapore. Robertsky is in Singapore and might be able to help if the book is available through a local physical or digital store. – DreamRimmer ■ 05:39, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- The book is in the Reference Library. I believe there is a trial to loan reference books out at the moment, but otherwise, it would have been a read-on-premise book. It is not available for sale, either physically or as an eBook. Published in 1957, this is likely out of print, and whatever copies floating around are likely in secondhand book stores here which requires one to visit to sift through the catalog for the availability in person. – robertsky (talk) 09:54, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- And oh... the book is 25 pages long... Fair use is about 10%... so 2-3 pages can be scanned. – robertsky (talk) 09:59, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah - I can't find anywhere that is selling the book for money. It seems pretty obscure. Worldcat says there's a few copies in the USA - at the University of Michigan, Cornell, and Yale. This might be a case of asking a fellow Wikipedian to get it via interlibrary loan and share a few relevant pages. —Ganesha811 (talk) 13:59, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Robertsky, if you are able to access the book from the National Library in Singapore, and email me a few relevant pages, that would be wonderful! If you don't have time or can't be bothered, no worries. Thank you. —Ganesha811 (talk) 14:01, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- I will be back at Cornell in July/August, if nobody can take a look sooner. Eddie891 Talk Work 15:49, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

- @Robertsky, have you had any luck with this? Thanks again. —Ganesha811 (talk) 18:53, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Ganesha811, I went to the library twice... The book is one of those that have to be referenced on site due to its age. First was after service hours, so no dice. The second was close to end of service hours and clarification that I have to put in a special request to have the book located and taken out from storage. I have requested for the book to be perused this coming Friday. Till then! – robertsky (talk) 03:30, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

- Ganesha811: I'm going to mark this as closed for now. If it turns out that the book is available for purchase and you are not able to get the relevant content through Robertsky or Eddie, feel free to re-open! Best, RAdimer-WMF (talk) 22:06, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
