University Playground is a 2.8-acre public park in Seattle's University District, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is operated by Seattle Parks and Recreation.
Description
[edit | edit source]The approximately 2.8-acre (1.1 ha)[1] public park is level and fully developed.[2] It is intended for all ages and has exercise equipment such as pull-up and push-up bars.[3] The 1982 sculpture Sasquatch Pushing Over a House by American artist Richard Beyer is installed in the park.[4][5] University Playground also has tennis courts, a baseball / softball[6] diamond and backstop, a playground with a slide and swings, and bathroom facilities.[7]
History
[edit | edit source]The tract of land was acquired by the board of parks commissioners in c. 1909.[1] According to the United States Department of the Interior, the land was acquired in 1910 and is part of the Olmstead Parks Plan.[8] The park has been in operation since 1911.[9]
