Tre Avery (born February 26, 1997) is an American professional football cornerback for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Avery grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and attended St. Francis Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, and Franklin High School.[1]
College career
[edit | edit source]On May 3, 2015, Avery committed to play football at Ohio State, but transferred to Toledo after an eligibility issue at Ohio State, redshirting there before transferring a second time to Rutgers.[2][3][4]

Tennessee Titans
[edit | edit source]On May 13, 2022, Avery signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent, and made the 53-man roster to start the regular season following final cuts.[6] He played 14 games during the 2022 season, making 29 total tackles, nine pass deflections, and a fumble recovery.[7]
Avery played 15 games during the 2023 season, making 33 total tackles and two pass deflections.[8]
Avery was waived by the Titans on August 27, 2024, and re-signed to the practice squad.[9][10] He was elevated to the active roster on October 15.[11] Avery appeared in nine games during the 2024 season, making three tackles on special teams.[12] He was released on December 28, 2024.[13]
San Francisco 49ers
[edit | edit source]On December 30, 2024, the San Francisco 49ers claimed Avery off waivers from the Titans.[14]
On August 4, 2025, Avery was waived by the 49ers.[15]
New England Patriots
[edit | edit source]On August 5, 2025, Avery was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots.[16] He was released on August 19.[17]
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
[edit | edit source]On August 22, 2025, Avery signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[18] He was waived on August 26 as part of final roster cuts.[19]
Cleveland Browns
[edit | edit source]On September 16, 2025, Avery signed with the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.[20] He was signed to the active roster on October 14.[21] On November 11, Avery was waived and re-signed to the practice squad two days later.[22][23] On December 10, he was signed to the active roster.[24]
