The Undergrads is a 1985 Canadian–American made-for-TV comedy‑drama directed by Steven Hilliard Stern. Starring Art Carney and Chris Makepeace,[1] the film premiered on April 1, 1985 on The Disney Sunday Movie.

After Mel Adler’s (Carney) apartment catches fire, his son attempts to move him into a retirement facility. Mel’s teenage grandson, Dennis “Jody” Adler (Makepeace), rescues him and arranges for Mel to live in his college dorm—and enroll as a student. The two navigate college life on a shoestring, with Mel even developing a gentle romance with his English professor, while Jody works a stressful part-time job. As Mel strives to maintain the required GPA to stay in school, familial bonds and intergenerational friendship take center stage. [2][3]
