Usage
[edit source]The {{WikiProject Ice Hockey}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, you can add an assessment parameter according to the guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Assessment, as well as some others as explained. The full syntax is as follows:

General parameters:
- auto – optional, denotes when it was rated as a stub by a bot, if you come across it in an article then follow the instructions shown on the template. Stub article must be marked as "Stub" (note the capital S) for this parameter to work.
- bio – optional, put yes if it is a biographical article.
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details.
- needs-infobox – optional, put "yes" for articles requiring infoboxes.
- needs-photo – optional, put "yes" for articles requiring photos. If bio is set to yes then it will place articles in a specific category for people needing photos otherwise it goes in a generic ice hockey articles needing photos category.
- needs-stats – optional, put "yes" for articles requiring career statistics sections.
General taskforces:
- college – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the College Ice Hockey task force.
- euro – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the European Ice Hockey task force.
- women – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Women's ice hockey task force.
National Hockey League taskforces:
- bos – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Boston Bruins task force.
- cbj – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Columbus Blue Jackets task force.
- njd – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the New Jersey Devils task force.
- phi – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Philadelphia Flyers task force.
- pit – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Pittsburgh Penguins task force.
- sea – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Seattle Kraken task force.
- sjs – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the San Jose Sharks task force.
- van – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Vancouver Canucks task force.
- vgk – optional, put "yes" for articles under the scope of the Vegas Golden Knights task force.
To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
