Refwidth defines the maximum column width of generated lists of footnotes. It's a replacement for the |colwidth= parameter of {{reflist}} that applies a specific column width to <references>...</references>, {{reflist}}, and {{notelist}}. It only has a limited amount of width presets due to a technical limitation of Wikipedia:TemplateStyles; template parameter values cannot be used as CSS values, but they can be used in CSS file names. When there are multiple lists of footnotes on a page, use {{refwidth}} only once and it will apply to each one. To give a {{reflist}} or a {{notelist}}showing a list of explanatory notes a different column width, use that template's first unnamed parameter |1= to provide a separate maximum column value in ems, such as 30em.
