Template:Cite IEP/doc

This template adds a link to an entry in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy at iep.utm.edu.

Parameters

|url-id=the location of the entry at the IEP website' For example, the entry "Zeno’s Paradoxes", with the URL https://iep.utm.edu/zenos-paradoxes/, will be said to have a location of zenos-paradoxes.

All the rest of the parameters take values as described in {{Cite encyclopedia}}

deprecated parameters

{{{1}}}: the location of the entry at the IEP website. For example, the entry "Zeno's Paradoxes", with the URL https://www.iep.utm.edu/zeno-par/, will be said to have a location of zeno-par. {{{2}}}: the title of the entry (defaults to the title of the Wikipedia page) {{{3}}}: the author {{{4}}}: the date the entry was last updated

Examples and usage

Suppose you want to add an external link to the IEP's article on Samuel Alexander (1859–1938) at https://www.iep.utm.edu/alex-sam/. The |url-id= is samuel-alexander. The last update is June 1, 2009.

Publication date

The IEP has not provided a publication date on article pages since about 2014. However, a publication date can sometimes be found by finding the first Internet Archive of the article, then looking through the RSS feed of the site from that date. For example, for this article:

The first archive can be found at

• https://web.archive.org/web/1000/http://www.iep.utm.edu/reli-div/

which redirects to

• https://web.archive.org/web/20151118094015/http://www.iep.utm.edu/reli-div/

which was archived on 2015-11-18 = 18 November 2015. For articles older than 2014, original publication dates and modification dates are at the bottom of the page. Since this is more recent than 2014, clicking on the RSS feed icon Feed-icon in the left sidebar leads to

• https://web.archive.org/web/20151206031358/http://www.iep.utm.edu/feed/

which includes the article under the slightly modified title "Religious Diversity, Theories of" with the following line indicating the

   <pubDate>Mon, 09 Nov 2015 06:19:53 +0000</pubDate>
