Suchata Chuangsri (Thai: สุชาตา ช่วงศรี; born 20 September 2003) also known by the Thai nickname Opal (Thai: โอปอล) is a Thai model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss World 2025. She is the first Thai woman to win Miss World.
Early life and education
[edit | edit source]Suchata was born on 20 September 2003 in Phuket province to parents Thanet Donkamnerd and Supatra Chuangsri.[2][b] Her family runs a private business in Thalang, Phuket province. Suchata completed her primary and lower secondary education at Kajonkietsuksa School, and she moved to Bangkok for her upper secondary education at Triam Udom Suksa School, where she majored in Chinese under the Arts program.
Prior to becoming Miss Universe Thailand, Suchata was pursuing a bachelor's degree in politics and international relations at the Faculty of Political Science of Thammasat University.[3][6]
Pageantry
[edit | edit source]When Suchata was 16 years old, a 10-centimeter tumor was found in each of her breasts, and she underwent successful surgery to remove the tumors. Her experience led Suchata to become an advocate for breast cancer awareness, and she began competing in pageantry in order to bring awareness to the topic.[7]
In 2022, at the age of 18, Suchata entered the Miss Universe Thailand 2022 competition and finished as the third runner-up.[8] She was later promoted to second runner-up following the resignation of the original first runner-up, Nicolene Limsnukan.[9]
In 2024, Suchata was appointed to represent Bangkok in the Miss Universe Thailand 2024 pageant.[10] She won several special awards, including Miss Charming Talent and Miss Beauty and Confidence.[11] At the end of the competition, she was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2024.
Suchata represented Thailand at Miss Universe 2024, held on 17 November 2024 in Mexico City. She placed as the third runner-up[12] and received the Voice for Change silver award.[13][14]
However, on 22 April 2025, following her appointment as Thailand's representative to Miss World, the Miss Universe Organization announced her removal from the third runner-up position[15] for not completing her 12-month reign before accepting another title.[16]
Miss World 2025
[edit | edit source]On 22 April 2025, Suchata was appointed by the Miss World Thailand Organization — a collaboration between Tero Entertainment and TPN Global — to represent Thailand at Miss World 2025 in India. After winning the multimedia challenge, Suchata secured a place in the Top 40. The competition took place on 31 May 2025 in Hyderabad.[17] She was crowned Miss World 2025 as the first Thai and second Southeast Asian to hold the title.[18][19]
