Stephanocereus is genus of cactus from Brazil, related to Arrojadoa. This genus is monotypic with the sole species Stephanocereus leucostele.[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]Stephanocereus leucostele is a tall, segmented cactus with a blue stem. Unbranched or sparsely branched, Stems can reach upwards of 2 meters tall and have around 18 obtuse ribs. The areoles, spaced 12–16 mm, have 12–16 radial spines and 4–6 strong central spines, all are yellowish in color. Ribs are triangular with rounded edges around 5mm high. The tubular flower arise from the brownish ring-like cephalium that segments the stem. Fruits are glabrous, almost spherical, and 4 by 3.5 centimeters.[2]
