History

[edit | edit source]

Spin Move Records was established in 1996 in Santa Monica, California, with Barker as founder; Schrobilgen joined during the label’s later relaunch and expansion.[1] Early output included the self-titled album by Winsome Kin (1996).[5]

In the late 2000s the label released Amy Kuney’s debut full-length Bird’s Eye View (2008), crediting Spin Move as the issuing label.[2] In 2011, Spin Move issued Ainjel Emme’s Everyone Is Beautiful, recorded partly at Threshold Sound + Vision in Santa Monica.[3] Spin Move’s roster has also included pop vocalist Rochelle Diamante, whose single “Queen Bee” (2012) later appeared on multiple episodes of Dancing with the Stars.[6][7][8]

In 2010, Threshold Media (Spin Move’s parent company) filed a lawsuit related to the documentary film Catfish over the use of Spin Move artist Amy Kuney’s recording “All Downhill From Here,” identifying Spin Move Records as owned by Threshold.[4]
