Sercus (French pronunciation: [sɛʁky]; Dutch: Zerkel) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.[2]

History

[edit | edit source]

In the past, Sercus was on a Roman road that went from Cassel to Aire-sur-la-Lys, going through Oxelaëre, Staple, Wallon-Cappel, Thiennes and from Aire-sur-la-Lys continued towards Amiens via Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise and Doullens.[3]

During the Ancien Régime, the parish was included in the former Diocese of Thérouanne, and after it was abolished in 1557, the parish was transferred to the Diocese of Saint-Omer.[4]
