ROF-MAO (Rofumao (ろふまお); stylized in all caps) is a Japanese virtual unit formed by Anycolor in October 21, 2021. It consists of four Livers under Nijisanji: Kagami Hayato, Kenmochi Toya, Fuwa Minato, and Kaida Haru.[1] The unit's name comes from portmanteau of two internet slangs: ROFL and LMAO.[2] The unit formation were announced through Nijisanji official YouTube channel.[3] Their activities ranged from musical performance, variety program, and game streaming.

History

[edit | edit source]

Kagami, Kenmochi, and Fuwa were previously collaborated in musical sextet VACHSS[a] along with Kuzuha, Kanae, and Yumeoi Kakeru from February 2021. They released one original song in 2024.[4] The three, now joined by Kaida, were announced to be the featured Livers at Animate collaboration cafe in October 6, 2021,[5] but the formation of the unit was only announced on October 21, after they appeared in a project where they have to survive together throughout 3 days in an inhabited island.[6] The announcement includes the opening of ROF-MAO YouTube channel.[3] The unit aims to be the "amusing and cool adult" that anyone can love and to prove that they're not just cool on the appearance.[7]

ROF-MAO YouTube channel includes a variety weekly program ROF-MAO Cram School (木10!ろふまお塾, Moku 10! Rofumao Juku) that premiere every Thursday at 22:00 (JST) where they challenge various things and "still looking cool while at it".[8] The channel surpassed 1 million subscribers in August 2024.[9]
