Practical Magic 2 is an upcoming American fantasy romantic comedy-drama film directed by Susanne Bier and written by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, as a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic. It will be the first distribution rights to Village Roadshow Entertainment Group titles co-financed with Warner Bros. film not to produced by Village Roadshow Pictures after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025, with its library sold to Alcon Entertainment for $417.5 million on June 18, 2025.[1][2] The film is based on Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel The Book of Magic, a sequel to the original novel. It stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest, who reprise their roles from the first film and produce alongside Denise Di Novi, alongside new cast members including Joey King, Xolo Maridueña, Maisie Williams, and Lee Pace. The film is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2026.

On June 10, 2024, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic was in development with Akiva Goldsman writing the script. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman were in negotiations to reprise their roles and produce the film with Denise Di Novi.[3] On June 13, 2024, Kidman confirmed that she would return, alongside Bullock.[4]

In July, Di Novi stated that the sequel was based on the sequel novel The Book of Magic, also by Alice Hoffman.[5] Di Novi also claimed that the team hoped to film in 2025.[6] In January 2025, Susanne Bier was in talks to direct the film.[7] Bier was announced as the director in May 2025, with Joey King in talks to join the film.[8][9] In July, King was confirmed, alongside Xolo Maridueña, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, and Solly McLeod.[10]

Principal photography began on July 18, 2025, at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England,[11][12] with Simon Duggan serving as the cinematographer.[13] Filming wrapped on September 13.[14]

Release
