Ousethorpe is a small hamlet in the civil parish of Millington, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Pocklington.
History
[edit | edit source]The name Ousethorpe derives from the Old English personal name Eanwulf and the Old Norse þorp meaning 'secondary settlement'. Eanwulf was later shortened or changed to Ulf.[1]
Ousethorpe was formerly a township in the parish of Pocklington,[2] in 1866 Ousethorpe became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished to form Millington.[3] In 1931 the parish had a population of 13.[4]
Ousethorpe medieval settlement is a scheduled monument which was designated on 22 October 1998.[5]
