[edit source]Wiki Loves Women Ugandan Bloggers- Uganda 15th December

This was event was done in collaboration with the Ugandan Bloggers.We started off with Introductions to Wikimedia projects and creation of accounts.It was then followed by an introduction to editing through creating user pages. We have a target list of women to document and we started our second session by building on the list and then selecting our target articles. We worked in draft space and created eight drafts and moved three articles to main space.
Wiki Loves Women Workshop and Editathon - Tanzania 15th December (5th Event)

The event was designed to have two parts / phase, with a main focus of running a workshop focused on training volunteers and editors both new and past, by adding value to their editing skills. The second phase was focusing on keeping writing about notable women, where by we looked into past published women articles on Wikipedia under Wiki Loves Women and refining them. This is our fifth and last event in Tanzania, due to coming holidays, other event will start from second week of January. On this event about 8 new articles were made, and 13 old articles were edited with a total of 70 edits from 35 participants, this event was held at Buni Innovation Space, Dar es salaam Tanzania.
Tanzanian Women in Wikidata and Cinema-I 1st December 2018 (4th Event)

Second event on Wiki Women in Data and Cinema, this was the continuation of creating Women Swahili Wikipedia biographies relating to Cinema. Also improvement of WikiData occupation labels by translating the Wikidata cinema related labels from English to Swahili. This event was designed to support Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Months of African Cinema in Swahili. The event was held on 1st of December 2018, about 41 articles of women in cinema were created, and 71 articles were edited with total edits of 230 from at least 23 registered Editors.

[edit source]Tanzanian Women in Wikidata and Cinema 17th Nov 2018 (3rd Event)

Introduction to Tanzanian Women in Wikidata and Cinema is the third event that was held on on 17th of November at Seed Space. The event was focusing on training and sharing knowledge on what is Wikidata, how Wikidata works and how it can be used in line with Swahili articles.Also this event was designed to introduce ongoing African project whereby some of the wikidata english labels related to Cinema was translated into Swahili.

[edit source]Launch of our Women occupation label drive
[edit source]WikiData (which feeds many Wikipedia articles) hosts a huge list of professional occupation entries... in English. First, those are rarely translated in African languages. Second, in many languages, the word to describe a professional occupation is different for male and for female... So our call is simple... we would like to get many occupation labels translated in various languages and we would like to have both male and female form available (when relevant). For this, we have joined the Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Months of African Cinema, which runs in October and November 2018, and propose a list of cinema related labels to translate and improve. It is really not difficult to do and your knowledge of a local language is essential. START HERE.
Wikidata in Mbarara - Uganda

The wikimedia community user group Uganda hosted a wikidata event in Mbarara in partnership with Hive colab. It started of with account creation and a tutorial on how to edit on wikidata. The afternoon was a hands on editing session and a concluding remarks. The events attracted 14 new editors who made over 400 edits.
Wiki Loves Women Tanzania [Women in Politics 20th Oct 2018 (2nd Event)]

This was the second Wiki Loves Women event in Tanzania. This event was focusing on writing all about women's in politics in Tanzania, the event was done on 20th of October and about 15 editors participated where by about 22 articles of women were created, and 24 articles were edited with total edits of 71.
The event was again held at Seed Space and this time Seed Space hosted as a partner, due to a relationship we have started building between our team and Seed Space managers.

[edit source]Women In Technology Uganda

The wikimedia community User group Uganda carried out a one day training workshop for the staff of women in technology Uganda. The training included introduction to the wikimedia foundation and the different projects there with in. We had a hands on session on how to edit Wikipedia and then worked on the list of prominent women in technology. We concluded our day by writing up draft articles about these women suggested and one was moved to the main space. The lady who created the best article was awarded a wiki loves women t-shirt.
Wiki Loves Women Launch 08th September 2018 Tanzania (1st Event)

Wiki Loves Women 2018 Launch was the first event which was done on 08th September 2018. This event awareness was early been announced though Wiki Tanzania Community User group social media channels including WhatsApp group where most of members are active.
The goal was to explain to the audience and volunteers participated about Wiki Loves Women project in Tanzania and its goals and what will be done on each event. This event was able to pull out atleast 40 people including organizers and volunteers. About 33 articles of women were created, and 47 articles were edited with total edits of 220.
Launch of new Facebook group
[edit source]A dedicated Facebook group Mind the Gender Gap in Africa has been launched. It is meant to share and discuss issues related to the Gender Gap in Africa and its representation in Wikimedia projects (in particular Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and WikiData). If interested, please join !

[edit source]Wiki Loves Women at Wikimania Cape Town

Wikimania 2018 was held in Cape Town towards the end of July. At the event, Wiki Loves Women presented at the poster session. It also provided the perfect opportunity for Erina, Iddy and Douglas to meet and chat with Florence and Isla about what was expected over the course of the next 6 months.
Wiki Loves Women launches in Tanzania and Uganda
[edit source]Wiki In Africa is excited to announce that the Wiki Loves Women project will launch in Tanzania and Uganda in July 2018. This is an exciting progression for the project that was started in 2016 in Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria. Launching in East Africa.
The teams in Tanzania and Uganda are excited to get started! The Tanzania country team is lead by Maryam Mgonja, with support from Iddy Johns and Antoni Mtavangu. In Uganda, the country team is lead by Douglas Ssebaggala, with support from Erina Mukuta, Alice Kibombo, Geoffrey Kateregga, and Steve Bukulu. The country teams are looking forward to partnering with gender-focused civil society organisations. They will be encouraging them to release content about women’s experiences in their countries. The group will also train people in how to contribute information about gender issues. These new Wikipedians will also be celebrating local women on Wikipedia. The project will also include a global WikiData drive towards the end of 2018. In addition, it will release Wiki Loves Women Event Toolkits to facilitate other volunteer groups or organisations that wish to hold contribution events wherever they are. The work that was started in 2016 in the four West African countries continues in each country. This legacy is possible due to the dedication of the Wikimedia Usergroups and the civil society project partners.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th March 2018, Wikimedia Sweden and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in support the Swedish Government’s Feminist Foreign Policy facilitated WikiGap events in collaboration with Swedish Embassy’s around the world. More than 50 countries took part in WikiGap with over 1600 participants and more than 2,000 articles about notable women were added or improved. Countries across Africa were excited to hold WikiGap events, however not all of these countries have Wikimedia groups or activities to support these events. One such country was Zimbabwe. To make the event happen, Martin Larsen, communications officer at the Swedish Embassy in Harare, liaised with Wiki Loves Women’s Isla Haddow-Flood.
