Welcome to the assessment department of the Serbia WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles about Serbia. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Serbia}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Serbia articles by quality, which serves as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Frequently asked questions

[edit source]
How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Serbia WikiProject is free to add or change the rating of an article.
Why didn't the reviewer leave any comments?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, we are unable to leave detailed comments in most cases. If you have particular questions, you might ask the person who assessed the article; they will usually be happy to provide you with their reasoning.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Quality assessments

[edit source]

An article's quality assessment is recorded using the |class= parameter in the {{WikiProject banner shell}}. Articles that have the {{WikiProject Serbia}} banner template on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following standard grades may be used to describe the quality of mainspace articles (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds them to the FA-Class Serbia articles category)  FA
FL (for featured lists only; adds them to the FL-Class Serbia articles category)  FL
A (for articles that passed a formal peer review only; adds them to the A-Class Serbia articles category)  A
GA (for good articles only; adds them to the GA-Class Serbia articles category)  GA
B (for articles that satisfy all of the B-Class criteria; adds them to the B-Class Serbia articles category) B
C (for substantial articles; adds them to the C-Class Serbia articles category) C
Start (for developing articles; adds them to the Start-Class Serbia articles category) Start
Stub (for basic articles; adds them to the Stub-Class Serbia articles category) Stub
List (for stand-alone lists; adds them to the List-Class Serbia articles category) List
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unwarranted; adds them to the NA-Class Serbia pages category) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in the Unassessed Serbia articles category) ???

For non-mainspace content, the following values may be used:

Category (for categories; adds them to the Category-Class Serbia pages category) Category
Draft (for drafts; adds them to the Draft-Class Serbia pages category) Draft
File (for files and timed text; adds them to the File-Class Serbia pages category) File
Portal (for portal pages; adds them to the Portal-Class Serbia pages category) Portal
Project (for project pages; adds them to the Project-Class Serbia pages category) Project
Template (for templates and modules; adds them to the Template-Class Serbia pages category) Template

The following non-standard assessment grades for mainspace content may be used at a WikiProject's discretion:

Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds them to the Disambig-Class Serbia pages category) Disambig
Redirect (for redirect pages; adds them to the Redirect-Class Serbia pages category) Redirect

After assessing an article's quality, comments on the assessment can be added either to the article's talk page or to the /Comments subpage which will appear as a link next to the assessment. Adding comments will add the article to Category:Serbia articles with comments.

B-class assessment notes

[edit source]

B-Class articles may be reviewed by any user with no restrictions whatsoever. However, editors are urged to perform such an assessment strictly adhering to the B-Class article.

The B6 criterion is normally interpreted conforming to Wikipedia:TECHNICAL guideline: Every reasonable attempt should be made to ensure that material is presented in the most widely understandable manner possible. By extension, for the purposes of the WikiProject Serbia fulfillment of this criterion also means that an average Wikipedia user with no specific knowledge about Serbia and/or the Serbs will be able to understand the context of the article and extract useful information (ideally, even insight) from it. For example, a well-written article on a historical topic will have a "Background" section where necessary, rather than just springing right off into details of the event.

An article may be assessed as a B-Class article only if it meets all six criteria listed above. If the article fails one or more of the above criteria and surpasses Start-Class quality requirements, it should be assessed as a C-Class article. The Start-Class and the C-Class requirements are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Serbia/Assessment.

If the assessed article fails B-Class criteria, a To-do list should be created (or updated if it already exists) on the article's talk page showing the list of improvements suggested for the article. It is created and formatted using the {{Todo}} template. The list is maintained by editors, writers, reviewers or readers like you as a way to focus your collaborative efforts. As such, they represent a tentative consensus that helps improve the efficiency of the editing process. A To-do list for this page may look like this: {{to do}} The template (tag) to include the above is {{todo}}. The dynamic list in the box is drawn from a subpage of the talk page represented simply by "to do." }}

Importance assessment

[edit source]

An article's importance assessment is generated from the importance parameter in the {{WikiProject Serbia}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Serbia| ... | importance=??? | ...}}
Top
High
Mid
Low
???

The following values may be used for importance assessments:

Importance scale

[edit source]
Label Criteria Examples
Top Core topics about Serbia. Generally, these topics are sub-articles of the main Serbia article, vital for the understanding of Serbia or extremely notable to people outside of Serbia. This category should stay limited to approximately 100 members. Biographies should be limited to the top one or two Serbia in a particular field or persons of the greatest historical importance
High Topics that are very notable within Serbia, and well-known outside of it, and can be reasonably expected to be included in any print encyclopedia. This includes cities with a population of more than 100,000
Mid Topics that are reasonably notable on a national level within Serbia without necessarily being famous or very notable internationally, including smaller towns and smaller or less notable mountains and rivers
Low Topics of mostly local interest or those that are only included for complete coverage or as examples of a higher-level topic; peripheral or trivial topics or topics that have only a limited connection to Serbia
