WikiProject Sculpture, a sub-project of WikiProject Visual arts, is a place for Wikipedians to discuss issues and organize information about sculpture. Like any page on Wikipedia, all are welcome to edit and contribute to this WikiProject.

Rather than try to force information to appear in a uniform way, this WikiProject presents guidelines to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. These recommendations for creating Sculpture content are based on various Wikipedia style guides and common practices for writing good articles. Use your own judgment in applying these guidelines, along with other Wikipedia guidelines, to compose articles and be bold. If you would like to help, see the How to help section below and ask questions on the talk page.

Scope

The project seeks to improve the quality of articles related to sculpture. Category:Sculpture is the main category for articles within the scope of this project.

Goals

1. To provide a place to discuss common issues on Sculpture related pages.
2. To thoroughly explore Sculpture globally and historically.
3. To ensure all pages meet the standards of Wikipedia:Cite sources. See also WikiProject Fact and Reference Check.

How you can help depends on your time, resources, and interest. Here are a variety of ideas for contributions ranging from simple to complex. Take a look at the Open Tasks section of this page for more article-specific tasks.

Improve the bird's eye view

The entire subject and Wikipedia's coverage of it is intended to be summarized in the Outline of sculpture. It in turn is part of Wikipedia's outline system which is one of Wikipedia's main contents systems.

Please look it over and fill-in missing topics. If Wikipedia has an article or article section about those topics, please add links to them.

While analyzing the outline, please answer the following questions (and fix the outline as needed):

1. What's missing?
2. Is the structure of the outline (sections and indents) representative of the subject?
3. Does the outline help understand the relationships between the topics presented in the best way possible?

The overall purpose of the outline is to help readers comprehend the subject by showing what belongs to it, and within the subject what belongs to what.

The outline is a taxonomy of the subject, and also serves as a table of contents and navigation aid to browse Wikipedia's articles (and article sections) about the subject.

It is also a useful tool for the WikiProject to analyze, plan, develop, and revise sculpture-related material. It is a hub from which to organize related topics.

It was built as a "reverse outline", a structural model of an existing work, which in addition to being a summary of the work, can reveal the gaps and other weaknesses for revision purposes.

Develop articles

• Create new articles: A good starting point might be requested sculpture articles.

Articles for deletion

It is important to have an input into Articles for deletion. There will be a special page for sculpture articles, which needs to be maintained, updated and monitored. It will be found here: WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sculpture. Articles need to be added manually: please add any AfD you want to draw attention to, and also put it on your watchlist.

Images

• Upload and add images to sculpture pages. A logical starting point would be the requested art images.
  • Public domain image resources is a great place to start looking for images to add.
  • External links to online galleries/images can also be helpful, especially when free images are not available for upload and copyright violations might be an issue.

Wikipedia maintenance

• Manage infoboxes (Please use these judiciously and be conscientious of page layout.)
  • Add artist infoboxes (this one will do for sculptors too) {{Infobox Artist}}
    • Add {{needs artist infobox}} to the talk pages of artist entries that lack said infobox.
  • Add sculpture infoboxes {{Sculpture}}
• Check categorization of existing articles and help organize. (See Categorization and Category:Sculpture)
• Revert vandalism on articles to do with sculpture.
• Contribute to articles for deletion discussions.
• Contribute to conversations on articles listed here: Requests for comment/Media, art and literature.
