Welcome to WikiProject Franco-Americans. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Franco-Americans and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
Goals
[edit source]- Provide guidance to Wikipedians wishing to improve articles related to Franco-Americans.
- Help coordinate efforts aiming to improve and augment the coverage of Franco-American topics.
- Maintain a sensible categorization of Wikipedia articles related to Franco-Americans.
- Maintain the Portal:Franco-Americans
Scope
[edit source]- This project will encompass all aspects of the experience of Franco-Americans in the United States, including culture, history, politics, business, sports, etc. It will cover everything from the first Huguenot refugees of the 17th century to the most recent immigrants from everywhere within the French-speaking world.
Guidelines
[edit source]- Participants are advised to follow the principles, policies and guidelines of this encyclopedia, paying particular attention to these points:
- In as much as possible, prefer English-language sources over French-language ones for the sake of verifiability. When alternatives to French-language sources cannot be found, it is suggested to provide a translation for the referenced passages. See Wikipedia:Verifiability (Non-English sources).
- In conformity with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English), articles should have a French name if really it is the usage, among English speakers, to refer to a given object by that name.
