This is a WikiProject advice page on notability. It contains the advice and/or opinions of one or more WikiProjects on how notability may be interpreted within their area of interest. An advice page has the status of an essay and is not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. |
{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Navigation}}
This page is part of the Cricket WikiProject and provides a list of competitions that have been played at the highest international or domestic level. It is intended to be used as an aid in considering the presumed notability of events. Notability of events are determined through annual RfCs.
Competitions that have been deemed non-notable may still be notable if they can be shown to pass the wider requirements of WP:GNG. If an non-notable event has an article it won't be directly deleted, instead it would be sent to WP:AfD where this guideline could be cited. Likewise, notable events would still have to go through the WP:AfC.
The tables below lists events based on existing consensus and past discussions. Inaugural RfC in the system is scheduled to take place in January 2026.
System
[edit source]Cricket events/competitions are categorized as below based on the consensus. Categories of the new events are decided through annual RfCs, which also includes re-evaluating existing consensus as well (see RfC subpage for more information on how RfCs are conducted and #Deciding notability for guidelines).
- Category A: Notable enough for main article, season article, squads/signings articles and stage/sub-season articles.
- Category B: Notable enough for main article, season article and squads/signings articles.
- Category C: Notable enough for main and season articles only.
- Category D: Notable enough for main article only.
- Category E: Not notable.
- Category F: Not discussed yet.
All events in Categories A & B are notable enough for a separate final match article as well (per WP:NSPORTSEVENT).
Error creating thumbnail: NOTE:
- Regardless of an event's category, notability for stage/sub-season articles and final match articles depend on their individual coverage on WP:INDEPENDENT sources as well as the need based on WP:TOOBIG for the main article, and is not presumed.

Deciding notability
[edit source]<section begin=gl/>Categories for cricket events are decided through annual RfCs, where participants are encouraged to leave their thoughts and !votes based on the following guideline:
- Notability is decided based on if each type of article has SIGCOV on independent reliable sources excluding ROUTINE coverage. (Please familiarize with the above-mentioned policies along with WP:RfC and WP:NOTAVOTE before participating in the RfCs.)
- If no coverage or only ROUTINE coverage, then E.
- If non-routine coverage is only about the main competition and not season specific, then D.
- Non-routine coverage available for season specific content, then C.
- Non-routine coverage available for squads/signings, then B.
- Non-routine independent coverage available for sub-season topics, then A.
- Notability for stage/sub-season articles and final match articles depend on their individual coverage on WP:INDEPENDENT sources as well as the need based on WP:TOOBIG for the main article, and is not presumed.
