Description
[edit source]The goal of wikiproject backlog will be to target backlogs and perform the task of eliminating them. Backlogs will be rated by age and quantity. [edit source]What would be the point of this? The backlogs are already listed and sorted at CAT:B and CAT:AB. "The backlog" isn't a monolithic entity, and a group of dedicated people aiming to clear backlogs is a silly idea; people who'd be great at clearing CAT:CSD might well only add to the permanent backlog at WP:FAC if they all barged in with well-intentioned cluelessness, and vice-versa. – iridescent 17:26, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- The goal of the project would be to reduce the size of backlogs to a manageable size. Backlogs cannot be cleared entirely, but they can be reduced. Monthly goals would be set to get a particular backlog cleared. It will be easier to keep backlogs cleared if they are reduced. Some backlogs are to big for one person to clear. In order to clear these a organized task-force is needed. It will take time, but it can be done. --Alpha Quadrant (talk) 18:34, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- You haven't answered my question; why does this need a project, and what is there to coordinate? As I've already said, there's no one item called "The Backlog"; there are a number of different areas, and someone competent to work on one is quite likely completely unqualified to work on the others. Diverting people away from the area they're currently working on to work on something else will make things worse, not better; the backlog in whatever field you remove them from will rise, but the backlog in wherever you move them to will reduce more slowly, as it won't be what they're best at. For the sake of argument, how would this project reduce, for instance, the backlog at FAC? – iridescent 19:34, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- The goal will be to fix articles so that they no longer need to be listed under the category that is backlogged. Example: For a article that needs citations sources would be searched for and added so that it doe not require the additional citations tag. The wikiproject would single out a single backlog and work to fix articles so that they comply to the manual of style. --Alpha Quadrant (talk) 20:21, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

What about backlogs caused by inadequate tracking and noticeboarding? (Like all the proposed splits, which don't have a central clearing house, or proposed merges which don't need to use the central clearing house (WP:PM) and the clearing house doesn't seem to be ever processed anyways... ) 70.29.212.131 (talk) 06:40, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
