How do I establish a consensus?

[edit source]

How do I establish a consensus on Wikipedia when making edit requests. ~2025-31431-68 (talk) 14:57, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

You don't establish a consensus - everyone taking part does. As to when, and if, a consensus is arrived at, there really can't be a simple straightforward answer, since it depends on so many factors. Reading Wikipedia:Consensus should provide some guidance. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:10, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
I mean establishing a consensus before using the Error: Protected edit requests can only be made on the talk page. template. ~2025-31483-72 (talk) 16:42, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
By starting a discussion on the article talk page, explaining what you are proposing. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:42, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. ~2025-31383-02 (talk) 18:36, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
Just so you know in the future: You can link to a template while still showing it in curly bracket by using {{tl|templatename}}, i.e. something like {{tl|Edit semi-protected}} which will produce {{Edit semi-protected}}. (If you edit source in this section you'll see I produced those tl template links by using tlx so I could show parameters... but tl will work if you don't need parameters.) - Purplewowies (talk) 00:47, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
