Details: We are launching at the dawn of Wikipedia Day 2021, Wikipedia's 20th birthday. Our aim: translate articles on the environment that may be in one language but not another. During this event, we want to celebrate Wikipedia and the Wiki Community as well as one of it's newest User Groups, Wikimedians of the Caribbean. We wanted to find a way to celebrate Wikipedia in a way that reflects the richness of the Caribbean while also identifying an area that touches every nation in the Caribbean and it's diaspora. With the growth of climate change and hurricanes and other weather related events mounting in recent years, understanding the environment is more important than ever. Along with this also, we want to highlight the vast natural resources and botanical diversity of the region as well. Finally, the people and cultures of the Caribbean and those who have worked to preserve the natural identities of the islands will come into view.

  • This event marks the launch of this effort which culminated on Earthday, April 22, 2021.
  • We plan to have speakers and hold a brief navigation of Wikipedia editing and hear from Wikipedians in the environmental community of the Caribbean with guest from the environmental community elsewhere.
  • You don't have to speak more than one language, but the translation component is one we hope will be key.

Useful / Advanced support

[edit source]

The best way to get started at this event is to talk in person with one of the trainers at the events. As advanced preparation, anyone might select a Wikipedia article which interests them and which they might like to translate at the event. The best way to learn Wikipedia's method for translation is to come to the event, listen to the presentation, then ask for assistance if you need it.

If you want to read technical documentation on your own then click "show" to the right and read the following guides.
