The Amon Carter Museum of American Art invites editors and American art enthusiasts to "help Wikipedia tell the story of American art." Attendees at any of the edit-a-thons listed in the schedule below will be help facilitate the museum's mission to further knowledge on American art by either creating or editing articles on topics that relate to the museum's collections. Both novice and experienced editors are invited. We'll have experienced Wikipedians to guide participants through all parts of the editing process. Attendees gather in the museum's beautiful Reading Room, which offers a collaborative and inspiring space for working. Editors will also have ready access to the library's near-comprehensive collection of research resources on American art.

Event Particulars

  • The public is welcome, and attendees need not have Wikipedia editing experience. We'll have an experts on hand to provide instruction on editing basics. Just come with an interest in American art.
  • Sign up for a Wikipedia account before the event and read up on the benefits of having your own account.
  • We'll provide snacks and drinks!
  • Bring your laptop (mobile devices such as iPads, tablets, or phones are not officially supported so use at your own risk), and we'll provide the bandwidth!

What Should I Work On?

  • If you have 1 hour or less, attend a training to learn more about editing Wikipedia.
  • If you have 90 minutes attend a training and add some citations to an article.
  • If you have 2 hours attend a training and add a well cited paragraph to an article.
  • If you have 4+ hours consider creating a new article. Be sure to gather your reliable sources and check in with an experienced Wikipedian to ensure that your article meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines.

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art barnstar recognizes excellence in editing articles covering American art topics and is officially awarded at ACMAA EaT events. However, anyone can add the award to any user's talk page using our template. Simply create a new section on the user's talk page and paste the code.
