Get ready

add dates to my personal calendar. because of my time zone, subtract 1 day from all dates- ask someone to duplicate and update all subpages
- extended confirmed protect the call for candidates page, to discourage folks that don't qualify
- watchlist all subpages, except for candidate pages (I'll track those with RelatedChanges to keep them from clogging up my watchlist)
- ask for 2 admins to volunteer as discussion phase monitors. list them on the election page
- ask 3 checkusers to volunteer as scrutineers. list them on the election page
test election on enwiki - to test any changes to the SecurePoll setup work instruction.- notifications about schedule and plans via
- MMS - which includes some pages such as WP:AN, WT:RFA, and WP:VPM
- admin newsletter (WP:ANL)
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions
- join the Discord thread #english-wikipedia -> December 2025 administrator elections
- ask someone to test the candidate signup process. make sure the instructions make sense, the templates work, etc.
- AELECT3 only: convert the candidates page to use {{Show by date}} and
{{Bots|deny=AnomieBOT}}. see discussion page's history for an example. you can configure it to do everything automatically, without having to be around at 0:00 UTC to manually change things. note that a purge is needed though - retarget the redirects WP:CADE and WP:LATESTADE
- create an "election officials" group text on Discord. add everyone. that can be a good place to discuss SecurePoll questions, things the monitors are concerned about, etc. Being Discord "friends" with a person is a prerequisite to adding them, so friend everyone too.
- AELECT4 only: verify that Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidate subpage preload other and Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidate subpage preload self are not used anywhere, then delete them
Call for candidates

- step 1 create a candidacy page using the

Housekeeping phase

- contact any strong candidates with a candidate page that didn't put it on the candidates page, and ask if they'd like to

- gives candidates time to get their nominators to post statements, and answer questions 1–3
- gives folks time to write voter guides
- gives time for election clerks to do the todo items below
- gives time for election clerks to do SecurePoll configuration
- archive expired notices
- watchlist notice - should auto expire

- ASAP: send MMS to candidates
- update the MMS list

- make sure all candidates gave consent, by checking the candidate page history and making sure the candidate has made some edits to it
- add candidate page translcusions to Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase. example. regex.
- add the candidates to Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/List of candidate pages. just add a bulleted list with wikilinks. example. regex.
- also add the candidate talk pages
- make sure the related changes link on the discussion page works
- redirect each candidate RFA page to point at the AELECT subpage
- per consensus at Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections#Candidates not added, userfy the candidate pages of any candidates that didn't add their candidacy page to the candidates page. do NOT leave a redirect. then leave them a user talk message with a link to their page.

Discussion phase

Final hour of the discussion phase
[edit source]- update voting phase page, including inserting the SecurePoll link.
- make sure SecurePoll is fully configured and ready to go (voter roll added, translation messages added)
- check translations. make sure the candidate list is accurate
- check voter eligibility. make sure the voter roll is uploaded and that other options are configured correctly
- the poll is configured to open 10 minutes early. do some tests using main account, bot account, non-XC account
- scroll through all the transcluded candidate pages on the discussion page, and make sure the {{Abot}} is in the right place. what often happens is it'll end up in the middle of the discussion section due to people not understanding that it's supposed to stay at the bottom. when this happens, not all of the candidate page will be marked as closed, so it needs to be fixed

Post voting

Post scrutineering

- copy the raw tally into Excel and turn it into wikicode ready to post on the results page. post on the results page
- inform scrutineers to sign off on results
- update table at WP:AELECT with candidate counts
- update the "certified" date at Template:Administrator elections status/data, then purge the AELECT3 page to update the header template
After results are signed

- ask at WT:AELECT if folks want an RFC phase or not
- create debrief page (wikicode: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrator_elections/December_2025/Debrief&action=edit&oldid=1303608268)
- update /Header to contain a link to the debrief page. need a note that is in addition to the results bullet, and also need to un-comment the "Debrief" link. (example)

- change candidate pages to have green/successful and red/unsuccessful atops
- update WP:RFX200, WP:RFX300, and WP:RFX400
