Early life and education
[edit | edit source]Mirzan bin Mahathir was born in Alor Setar, Kedah, Federation of Malaya (now Malaysia) on 26 November 1958. He is the second child of Mahathir Mohamad and Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali after the birth of his sister, Marina Mahathir in the previous year. Mirzan received his early education at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College. He received his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom (1979–1982) and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School, United States (1986–1987).[1]

In September 1992, he was appointed to the Board of Konsortium Logistik Berhad. In January 1996, the company was listed on the Bursa Malaysia. He is a major shareholder of Konsortium and holds the position of Chairman and Executive President of Crescent Capital, an independent strategic and financial advisory firm. Controversies and issues
[edit | edit source]MACC's asset declaration order
[edit | edit source]His father, Mahathir Mohamad has revealed that his son, Mirzan, has been threatened with a five-year prison sentence. He added, "My son is being charged with threats if he does anything that the prosecutor considers contrary to the allegations he will be imprisoned for five years. There is no mention of being brought to court. This is reformasi. Outside (before becoming) the government, talk about the tyranny of the authorities." Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) ordered Mirzan to declare all movable and immovable assets in his possession, whether in the country or abroad, within 30 days from the date of the notice. The order was made by the MACC after the commission served a notice of order under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009.[3] Despite this, he and his younger brother, Mokhzani Mahathir, declared their assets to the MACC within the specified period.[4]
Personal life
