Matthew Douglas (born 26 November 1976 in London) is a former track and field athlete who specialised in the 400 metres hurdles.[1] He represented Great Britain at two consecutive Summer Olympics starting in 2000.[2] At the Commonwealth Games he first represented Northern Ireland, then later twice competed for England.
Biography
[edit | edit source]Douglas finished on the podium on four occasions at the AAA Championships in 1997 2000, 2003 and 2006.[3][4]
His personal best in the event is 48.54 seconds, set in 2003. As things stand it currently makes Douglas the 4th fastest Briton of all time over this distance at sea level.[citation needed]
At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he represented Great Britain in the 400 metres hurdles event[5] and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he represented the Great Britain team again.[6]
Douglas suffered from several injury problems towards the end of his career which forced him into early retirement.[citation needed] He has a degree in Sports Sciences from Brunel University London.[7]
