The Lied Library (/liːd/, LEED) is a library building located in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus in Paradise, Nevada. It first opened on January 8, 2001, and serves as the university's main library, with more than 1 million volumes in its collection spanning five floors.[1][2] Lied Library is named after late real estate investor and developer Ernst Lied, whose eponymous Lied Foundation Trust donated more than $15 million to the library's construction.[3]
As of the fiscal year 2023-2024, the collection budget for the libraries was $8.5 million.[4]
Media Distribution System
[edit | edit source]The Media and Computer Services Department at Lied Library operates the Safari integrated video network system. This system supports the delivery of analog and digital media to library carrels, preview rooms, multimedia PCs, library classrooms, and conference rooms.[1]
Special Collections and Archives: Gaming
[edit | edit source]Special Collections and Archives house a large collection of gaming materials, including books, periodicals, visual materials, and oral histories. The collection houses corporate archives from gaming corporations around the world, including Harrah's, MGM, Boyd Gaming, and Binion's Horseshoe.[5]
The collection also houses architectural drawings of past, present, and planned casinos, as well as Vegas corporate papers of the Las Vegas neon signs, most of which were built by the Young Electric Sign Company. The papers include sketches, designs, and photographs of many of these signs, some of which can be found at the Neon Museum in Las Vegas.[6][7]
