Kitchen Soldier (KoreanLua error: Internal error: The interpreter exited with status 1.Lua error: Internal error: The interpreter exited with status 1.) is an upcoming South Korean military comedy television series written by Choi Ryong, directed by Jo Nam-hyung, and starring Park Ji-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Han Dong-hee, and Lee Hong-nae. Based on the Naver Webtoon of the same name by J Robin, the series is about Kang Seong-jae, a young man from a poor background, who enlists in the military at 20 and unexpectedly rises to become a legendary cook. It is scheduled to premiere on TVING in 2026.

Synopsis

Kang Seong-jae, a private and cook at Gangrim Outpost, was once a top trainee who fell to sergeant. He accepts a quest to become a cook, following an unfamiliar voice, and ultimately becomes the legendary cook serving the Republic of Korea Armed Forces.

Development

Produced by Studio Dragon and Studio N, the series is directed by Jo Nam-hyung, who previously co-helmed Tale of the Nine Tailed (2022) and Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 (2023), and the screenplay is written by Choi Ryong, who wrote Sorry Not Sorry (2024–2025). It is based on the Naver Webtoon of the same title by J Robin.[3][1]

Casting

On February 6, 2025, Park Ji-hoon was reportedly being considered by his agency, YY Entertainment, to star as Kang Seong-jae.[3] On February 12, according to NewsenYoon Kyung-ho reportedly received an offer and was considering it, while Sports Kyunghyang stated that Yoon has been confirmed to appear.[4][5] As stated by SPOTV in May, Lee Sang-yi would make a special appearance in the series.[6] The casting of Park, Yoon, Han Dong-hee, and Lee Hong-nae were officially confirmed in July.[1] In that month also, Jung Woong-in joined the cast.[2] In December, L.S.Y. was confirmed to make a special appearance as a Captain Hwang Seok-ho.[7]
