Graminitigrina flindensis is a species of cicada, also known as the Hughenden grass-clicker, in the true cicada family, Cicadettinae subfamily and Cicadettini tribe. It is endemic to Australia. It was described in 2017 by entomologists Anthony Ewart, Lindsay Popple and Kathy Hill.[1]
Etymology
[edit | edit source]The specific epithet flindensis is derived from the Flinders River, the headwaters of which are close to the Porcupine Gorge Lookout (the type locality).[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]The length of the forewing is 11–16 mm.[3]
Distribution and habitat
[edit | edit source]The species occurs in the vicinity of Hughenden and the Porcupine Gorge National Park in northern Queensland. Its associated habitat is open eucalypt woodland.[3][2]
Behaviour
[edit | edit source]Adults have been heard in January and February, clinging to grass stems and shrubs, uttering strong chirping, rattling and buzzing calls.[3]
