Gemma Griffiths is a Zimbabwean singer-songwriter and podcaster known for her work in Afro-pop music and her involvement in creative projects within the African arts scene.[1][2][3]
Early life and career
[edit | edit source]Griffiths was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe.[4] Her musical style incorporates elements of Afro-pop and contemporary African music. She began releasing music that reflects her cultural background and artistic interests.[5][6]
Music career
[edit | edit source]Griffiths released the single "Don't Worry," which received media coverage for its Afro-pop style.[7] She subsequently released an EP titled A Girl from Harare, featuring songs that blend traditional Zimbabwean sounds with contemporary influences.[8][9] Griffiths has also collaborated with other African artists, including South African producer Prince Kaybee on the single "Sorry Not Sorry."[10]
Gemma released her new single "Mhaka" on January 31, 2025, as a precursor to her upcoming self-titled debut album, scheduled for release on May 23, 2025.[11]
Podcasting and other work
[edit | edit source]Griffiths hosts a podcast titled Hello Hi with Gemma, which features conversations with African creatives and aims to highlight their work and experiences.[12][13]
Her career and projects have been discussed in various African media outlets. In 2023, Griffiths has also been the subject of a documentary titled A Girl from Harare chronicling her music journey.[14][15] The film, shot across 10 African countries, features appearances by artists Winky D and Ammara Brown.[15][16][17]
