Floridia (Italian pronunciation: [floˈriːdja]; Sicilian: Ciuriḍḍia[1] [çʊˈɾiɖɖja]; from Latin Florae dies "day of Flora" or the adjective floridus "florid")[2] is a town and comune in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily (Italy).
Geography
[edit | edit source]Floridia lies 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of Syracuse. Its principal industries are agriculture, livestock, and manufacturing.
Neighboring communities are Canicattini Bagni, Palazzolo Acreide, Syracuse, and Solarino.
Climate
[edit | edit source]On 11 August 2021, Floridia broke the record for the highest recorded temperature in Europe at 48.8 °C (119.8 °F).[3]
