English: The Riel dance (Die Rieldans) is to the countryside in the Western Cape Province, what the "Kaapse Klopse" is to the urban coloured communities in Cape Town.
The ritual of Riel dancing has it's roots in simple courtship stories that are reenacted by troups all over the "Swartland" area.
The dances are also associated with a specific type of music played with instruments like the "blikguitar" and "treklavier".
