Artwork by Lisa Hoke, Light My Fire (site-specific installation, paper and glue, 40' × 20', 2006, Rice University Moody Arts Center, Houston, TX). The image illustrates a mid-career stage and body of work in Lisa Hoke's art when she produced abstract installations of hanging forms, mosaic-like panels, and sculptural murals, using consumer detritus and commercial packaging as raw materials. In this work, she explored color chromatics and surface sensations using short, variously cropped red, pink, yellow and white paper scrolls adhered to five adjacent windows. It exploited shifting sunlight to create a lace-like effect dappling the space with spots of light and color that changed and faded in intensity over time. This project and similar works have been publicly exhibited in prominent venues, discussed in major art journals and daily press publications, and commissioned by museums. |
