Yaad-e-Salamat (Urdu: یادِ سلامت, meaning "Remembrance of Salamat") is an annual Hindustani classical music festival held in Lahore, Pakistan. Founded in 2001 by the Sham Chaurasi Music Circle, it is organised with the support of the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra). The festival is held in memory of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan of the Sham Chaurasia gharana and focuses on classical music traditions in Pakistan.[1]
History
[edit | edit source]The first Yaad-e-Salamat festival took place in July 2022 at the Alhamra Arts Center in Lahore. It was introduced as a free public event in honour of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and later became part of the city’s cultural calendar.[2][3]
The festival is usually held over two days and features artists associated with the Sham Chaurasi gharana.[1][4][5]
Organization
[edit | edit source]The event includes vocal and instrumental performances of ragas such as Basant, Darbari Kanada, Kafi, Bhupali and Thumri.
Performers have included family members and students of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, including Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan and Ustad Rafaqat Ali Khan.[6]
