Unathi Lwazi Mkhize (born 23 September 1998) is a South African actor and internet personality, known for his role as Nkanyiso Hlophe on the 1Magic telenovela The River.[1]
Early life and education
[edit | edit source]Unathi Mkhize was born on September 23, 1998, in Umzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal.[2][3] Mkhize is of Zulu descent among the Nguni people. He obtained his degree from AFDA Film Academy, where he studied filmmaking and directing.[4]
Career
[edit | edit source]Mkhize started his acting career in 2018 on Mzansi Magic short local drama films, where he had guest-starring roles. He appeared on shows such as Siyaya, Umhlaba, The List, and NightMan's Taxi before landing his first credited TV role on the e.tv crime drama series Isiphindiselo alongside Zamani Mbatha , Baby Cele, and Isreal Matseke, portraying Vusimuzi in 2021.[5]
In 2022, Mkhize starred on the 1Magic telenovela The River as Nkanyiso Hlophe, alongside Bheki Mkhwane, Brenda Mhlongo, Vuyo Biyela, and Tina Dlathu.[6] He then appeared in the short film Nefarious Creatures as Lon.[7][8]
In 2023, he played Ntsika on the 1Magic comedy series Roomies alongside Nomalanga Shozi,[9][10] while also making his Netflix debut starring as Njabulo Adesina in Blood Legacy alongside Xolile Tshabalala,Pallance Dladla and Connie Chiume.[11][12]
In 2025, he starred in the Mzansi Magic comedy-drama Levels, playing Sihle, and had a supporting role as Lethokuhle Dladla on Ithonga.[13]
Personal Life
[edit | edit source]Mkhize has been described in publications as having broad audience appeal.[14][15] He has acknowledged the attention in relation to his television career.[6]
