Spectrum Equity is an American growth equity firm that invests in software, data, and consumer internet businesses.[2] Founded in 1994, the firm has offices in Boston, San Francisco and London.[3] The firm typically invests $25 million to $200 million per transaction.
History and fundraising
[edit | edit source]Spectrum Equity was founded by Brion Applegate and William Collatos, and raised its first fund in May 1994.[4] [5] The firm primarily invests in software, data, and consumer internet businesses.[6]
In 2022, Spectrum closed its tenth fund (Fund X) at $2.2 billion.[7] [8]

- Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (2023) — Acquired a 20% stake in an EV supply chain data provider at a ~$500 million valuation.[10]
- CINC Systems (2023) — Recapitalized 2020 investment as part of majority sale to Hg.[11]
- Awardco (2025) — Co-led a $165 million Series B in an employee recognition platform, valuing it at $1 billion.[12]
- Quavo (2025) — Invested $300 million in a fintech software provider for fraud and dispute management.[13]
