Rafa Yeasmin (born 16 February 2009) is an Indian playback singer-songwriter. She was the 5th runner-up in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs 2022[1][2][3][4][5][6] and has also participated on other Indian singing reality shows, including Taare Zameen Par (2020) and Super Singer Junior (2019).[1] She was conferred the Cyber Safety Ambassador by the Malda District Police in 2025.[7][8]

In 2024, Yeasmin was nominated at the 4th World Meet in Bangkok, Thailand.[9] In 2025, she made her debut as a playback singer with the song "Tak Dumadum" from the film Biporite.

Early life

Rafa Yeasmin was born on 16 February 2009 in Malda, West Bengal, India, to Rajjak Hossain and Tania Yeasmin.[1] She began her music training at age of two and a half. She was taught Indian classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti and folk music by Tandra Chowdhury, Khama Kumar, and Krish Dot in Malda.[1] At the age of three, Yeasmin started performing at singing competitions and public events. After 2019, she continued her training in Kolkata under Trisha Parui. Since 2020, Dhananjay Bhatt teaches her Indian classical music, pop music, rock music and filmi music. In 2020, she got a scholarship from the Shankar Mahadevan Academy for training in Indian classical music.[1] She completed her early education at Sabuj Abujh Shishu Angan (up to class 10) and currently attends Barlow Girls' High School.

Career

2018–2019

Yeasmin won the 42nd All India Talent Search and Merit Test Competition, organised by the Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad in multiple categories in both 2018 and 2019. In 2018, she received gold medals in singing, recitation, and art. In early 2019, she won gold medals in Indian classical music, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti. Her gold medals were awarded at Rabindranath Tagore’s Jorasanko Thakur Bari, where she performed the Rabindra Sangeet "Amar Hiyar Majhe".[1]

In June 2019, Yeasmin made her television debut on Super Singer Junior, which aired on Star Jalsha.[1] She was eliminated, finishing in fifth place. In 2020, she participated in Taare Zameen Par, which aired on StarPlus, reaching the Top 11.[1] In this show, she received a scholarship to continue her training at the Shankar Mahadevan Academy.[1]

2022–present

In 2022, Yeasmin participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs on Zee TV and became the 5th runner-up.[1][2][3][4][5][6] She won a gold medal and reached the top 12 in the audition round for performing the song "Senorita" from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which was highlighted in media reports during the audition round.[10][1]

After returning from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs, Yeasmin continued to perform live at multiple public concerts. On 16 January 2024, she performed at a concert at Sripat Singh College and later visited Arijit Singh's residence.[11][12][13]

She started composing at the age of 13 and "Jile Tu Yeh Zindagi" was the first song which she composed and released. Since 2023, she has focused on producing and releasing original songs, including "Kalar Banshi", "Eid Mubarak", "Joy Dugga Ma", Dil" and "Maula". She has worked with various music composers and lyricists including Dhananjay Bhatt, Priyo Chattopadhyay, Pradip Sarkar, and Amit Sur. In June 2025, Yeasmin made her playback singing debut with the song "Tak Dumadum" from the film Biporite.

Yeasmin was first reported in national news when she won the 42nd All India Talent Search and Merit Test Competition in 2018.[1] After Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs, she returned to her hometown of Malda, where government ministers and public visited and felicitated her, including Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury, Sabina Yeasmin.[2][5]

Media reports have noted her ability to sing in both semi-classical and rock-based styles.[1] In 2024, Yeasmin’s bag was reported stolen while she was traveling by train from Malda to Kolkata. The incident was covered by national newspapers[6][14][15][16][17]

In 2025, during her preparation for the Class 10 Madhyamik board examinations, Yeasmin's commitment to continuing her live concerts and balancing her academic and professional life garnered media attention in regional newspapers.[18][1] In the same year, When the Malda District Police conferred Yeasmin as the Cyber Safety Ambassador under a government awareness initiative, media reports noted her participation in activities related to digital safety and outreach campaigns associated with the programme, mentioning the perticipation of youth in public-awareness initiatives.[7][8]
