Pierre Gervais is a Belgian actor. He is best known for portraying painter René Magritte in the 2025 VRT television series This Is Not a Murder Mystery.[1]
Early life and education
[edit | edit source]Gervais was born in Brussels, Belgium.[2] He studied theatre at the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle et des Techniques de Diffusion (INSAS) in Brussels.[3]
Career

[edit | edit source]During and after his studies, Gervais was active in theatre productions in Belgium. After he finished his studies at INSAS, he won the Prix Maeterlinck de la Critique for Meilleur espoir masculin (best emerging male talent) for his performance in the production Ce qui arrive directed by Coline Struyf.[3]
Early film and television work
[edit | edit source]Gervais appeared in television and film roles early in his career, including small parts in drama productions and Belgian series. He continued to perform in theatre while building his screen career.[4]
Breakthrough: This Is Not a Murder Mystery
[edit | edit source]In 2025, Gervais was cast as a young René Magritte in the eight-part television series This Is Not a Murder Mystery, directed by Hans Herbots and produced by VRT 1.[5] The series combines elements of crime drama and surrealism inspired by Magritte’s art and was distributed internationally. Gervais’s portrayal was noted in the Belgian and international press.[6][7]
