Matthew Dennant (born 25 June 1991) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Nicknamed "the Scholar", Dennant secured a two-year PDC Tour Card at UK Qualifying School in 2016, by finishing 12th on the Order of Merit. He has won two events on the PDC Challenge Tour in 2020 and 2021.
Career
[edit | edit source]Matthew Dennant reached a final on the PDC Development Tour for the first time in 2012. A year later he made his debut at the 2013 UK Open.After two wins he was eliminated in the third round by Adrian Lewis.[4] Dennant won event seventeen on the 2013 Challenge Tour. At the beginning of 2016, Dennant was able to win a PDC Tour Card through the PDC Qualifying School.[5] At the 2016 European Darts Trophy he made his PDC European Tour debut. He lost to Devon Petersen 6–5 in the first round. Through the UK Open Qualifiers, Dennant qualified for the 2017 UK Open. After a victory over Zoran Lerchbacher in the second round, he was eliminated again in the third round. Due to his results on the PDC Pro Tour, he lost his Tour Card again at the end of 2017.
In 2018, Dennant qualified for the 2018 International Darts Open. He qualified for the 2019 UK Open through his ranking on the 2018 PDC Challenge Tour but lost in the first round. At the 2019 European Darts Open he was able to defeat Madars Razma to his a match on the European Tour for the first time. He then lost to Mensur Suljović 6–4. On the 2020 Challenge Tour, he won the third event.[6] The following year, he took part in the 2021 UK Open, before winning UK Challenge Tour 8.[7]
In 2024, Dennant won a Tour Card for the second time at PDC Qualifying School.
