mAid (/md/) is a free and open-source Linux distribution based on the Manjaro Linux operating system that has a focus on user-friendliness for Android_(operating_system) users. It uses a rolling release update model and Pacman as its package manager. It is developed mainly in Germany.

mAid is an abbreviation for: [m]anage [A]ndro[id]

History

[edit | edit source]

Back in 2016 the idea of a Linux distribution was born which main goal was to provide a stable environment for supporting users with Android_(operating_system) issues.

At this time the project was branded "FWUL" (Forget Windows Use Linux). Due to several reasons this name was not ideal and a rebranding started in in parallel to the v3 releases. v4 is the first fully re-branded released and named mAid.

In September 2017, Manjaro announced that support for i686 architecture would be dropped because "popularity of this architecture is decreasing".[1]. This was the end for the 32bit releases for mAid as well.

Features

[edit | edit source]

Light Weight & Fast

  • While containing a lot of pre-installed tools mAid tries to keep its size tiny (around 1 GB)

Easy to use

  • No driver hassle
  • no complicated installations
  • remote support tools installed (tmate)
  • or installed with a click (teamviewer)
  • just download, flash and enjoy

For everyone

  • mAid is for Windows Users, Linux Users, MAC Users, BSD Users, Android Users and everyone else

For Experts

  • While mAid claims to be easy to use and being for everyone even advanced users can make use of mAid! Here are some examples:
  • No need to prepare your own distro
  • Give others (family, friends, ..) easy support in a known and stable environment!
  • simple one-click Remote Access (TeamViewer, tmate)

Relation to Manjaro Linux

[edit | edit source]

The main difference compared to Manjaro Linux is the pre-configuration of all required tools and packages for Android_(operating_system) phone management.
