mAid (/maɪd/) is a free and open-source Linux distribution based on the Manjaro Linux operating system that has a focus on user-friendliness for Android_(operating_system) users. It uses a rolling release update model and Pacman as its package manager. It is developed mainly in Germany.
mAid is an abbreviation for: [m]anage [A]ndro[id]
History
[edit | edit source]Back in 2016 the idea of a Linux distribution was born which main goal was to provide a stable environment for supporting users with Android_(operating_system) issues.
At this time the project was branded "FWUL" (Forget Windows Use Linux). Due to several reasons this name was not ideal and a rebranding started in in parallel to the v3 releases. v4 is the first fully re-branded released and named mAid.
In September 2017, Manjaro announced that support for i686 architecture would be dropped because "popularity of this architecture is decreasing".[1]. This was the end for the 32bit releases for mAid as well.
