Biography
[edit | edit source]Krystal was educated at the University of South Carolina, where she got her Bachelors of Science in Physics. She began her career as an Intern Physics Teacher in 2019, and began teaching at Glenelg Country School in 2020. She teaches several STEAM courses, including AP Physics C, Honors Physics, Physics, Observational Astronomy, Space Science & Technology, Robotics, and Algebra II Honors. She also serves as the lead mentor for FIRST Tech Challenge team 607.[1] She is currently a student at John's Hopkins University, studying Space Systems Engineering.
Krystal facilitated the grand reopening of Glenelg Country School's Gould Observatory.[3] The observatory, build in 2003, had been closed from 2013-2021.[3] Working with volunteers from the Howard Astronomical League and her astronomy class, she was able to bring the observatory back into working order. At the grand reopening, students and families of the school toured the observatory, and had the opportunity to see various planets and moons through the telescope.[3] The observatory continues to remain open to this day, hosting "Star Parties", which are opportunities for the community to come together to observe the night sky, with or without telescopes.[4]
Awards
[edit | edit source]In 2025, Krystal was awarded the Aerospace Educator Award, K-12, which recognizes her for her "exceptional commitment to aerospace education and her steadfast dedication to advancing the inclusion of women and girls in the field."[2]
