History of founding

[edit | edit source]

Jusoor was founded in 2011 by Rania Succar, CEO of Intuit Mailchimp, and other Syrian Harvard University alumni to change the fortunes of young people in Syria and to prevent a lost generation in Syria due to war and economic hardships.[4]

Jusoor started with providing scholarships for Syrians who both excel academically but also have leadership traits that can have an impact on their community. Jusoor has provided scholarships to 390 students since its inception in 2011. [5] With the ongoing refugee crisis in Syria since 2011, Jusoor has been running educational programs for Syrian children in Lebanon, reaching around 15,000 students. Jusoor also runs entrepreneurial training and awards funding to start-ups run by Syrians and others across the Middle East in areas with dense Syrian diaspora populations, such as Türkiye.[6]
