Jacopo De Simoi (born September 20, 1981) is an Italian-Canadian mathematician and Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto Mississauga. He is known for his work in dynamical systems, ergodic theory, and mathematical physics.

Early life and education

De Simoi was born on September 20, 1981, in Italy. He is a native Italian speaker and is also fluent in English and French.

De Simoi received his early education in Italy, earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physics from the University of Pisa in 2003 and 2005 respectively, both cum laude. He also obtained a Diploma di Licenza in Physics from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa in 2005, cum laude.

He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Dmitry Dolgopyat. His doctoral thesis was titled "Abundance of escaping orbits in a family of anti-integrable limits of the Standard Map."

Career

Academic positions

De Simoi began his academic career with several postdoctoral positions:

• 2009-2010: Fondation Science Mathématiques de Paris postdoctoral fellow at Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris 6), supervised by Professor Raphaël Krikorian
• 2010-2013: European Research Council postdoctoral fellow at University of Rome Tor Vergata, supervised by Professor Carlangelo Liverani
