- File:Symbol opinion vote.svg Comment: Reference 5 has potential for indicating notability, but one source isn't enough. The other sources are mostly routine coverage of funding rounds, headquarters, and product lines. Reference 2 is not independent or reliable because "Contributors" can be anyone, including people from the company itself (see WP:FORBESCON for example). Iglu.com Limited (also known as Iglu) is an online travel agency owned by Flight Centre, which specialises in ski holidays and cruise holidays.
Since its launch in 1998, Iglu.com has led a number of travel industry takeovers[1] and has been through several private equity deals.[2]
Iglu is headquartered in Wimbledon in London, United Kingdom.[3]
History
[edit | edit source]Iglu.com was founded in 1998 by Richard Downs, who started the ski holiday company as a case study for part of his MBA at the London Business School.[4]
Iglu initially struggled for survival following the crash of the dot-com bubble.[5] Downs says it took four years for Iglu to become profitable,[6] with the company reporting its first annual profit in 2003.[7]
By 2005, Iglu reported a turnover of £22 million and profits of over £1 million,[4] before it entered the cruise holiday market in 2006.[8]
In 2009, Iglu completed a £4.3 million management buy-out backed by Matrix Private Equity (now Mobeus Equity Partners), which was followed by a £19 million investment from Growth Capital Partners in May 2012.[9]
Between 2013 and 2015, Iglu led several acquisitions of smaller travel companies, including the acquisition of Planet Cruise in 2013.[2]
In 2015, Iglu received investment from Lloyds Development Capital, a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group, as part of an acquisition that was reported to be worth around £60 million.[1]
In September 2020, Downs described the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as “the most challenging period in the 22 years since Iglu.com launched,” with the company beginning a redundancy consultation process to reduce its operating costs by 40-50 per cent.[10]
In 2022, following the lifting of travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19, Iglu’s adjusted EBITDA amounted to £8.9 million.[11]
In December 2025, Flight Centre acquired Iglu,[12] in a deal worth £122 million[13], which was led again by Lloyds Development Capital.[14]
As of December 2025, Iglu employs 418 people[15] and continues to be led by chief executive David Gooch.[16]
Iglu Cruise
[edit | edit source]Cruise holidays represent around 90% of Iglu’s total bookings[17] and more than 75% of online cruise bookings in the UK.[18]
In 2023, The Times reported that Iglu Cruise was up for a sale with a potential price tag of £100 million, following a returning demand for cruise holidays, after a lengthy period of Covid-related travel restrictions.[11]
In May 2025, Iglu Cruise returned to river cruises for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,[19] offering river cruise holidays across Europe, Central America, Africa and Asia.[20]
Iglu Ski
[edit | edit source]Iglu Ski offers ski holidays in over 280 ski resorts across 18 countries.[21] The brand celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023 and announced plans for further investment in artificial intelligence and technology.[22] In 2025, Iglu Ski launched a partnership with sports retailer Decathlon.[23]
