Grahaa Space is a Bengaluru-based private aerospace company in India that develops Earth-observation nanosatellites intended for near real-time geospatial video applications[1]. The company develops an optical payload for video capture and transmission, for which it has filed patent applications, which is intended to serve as the core module for video capture and transmission from LEO.

The company is pursuing a technology-demonstration mission for its SOLARAS S2 [2][3] nanosatellite, for which it received authorisation from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in November 2025[4][5]. The mission, initially planned for an earlier date, was delayed[6] and is now scheduled for launch from Brazil’s Alcântara Space Center aboard INNOSPACE’s Hanbit-Nano launch vehicle within a launch window of December 19, 2025[7], with the objective of validating systems ahead of a proposed constellation[8] designed to deliver near-real-time geospatial video from low Earth orbit[1].

The company was founded by former ISRO scientist Loganathan Muthusamy and former IBM employee Ramesh Kumar Venkatesan[9]. It is incubated at the Space Technology Innovation and Incubation Cell (STIIC) at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and is supported by the Viskan Group[4]. The company is also supported by international incubation programs such as the Innovation & Collaboration Centre (ICC) at the University of South Australia[10]. In 2025, the company participated in international partnership initiatives as part of an Indian space delegation[11].

Earlier Missions

Grahaa Space's earliest flight activities involved sub-orbital technology demonstration missions intended to validate miniature satellite subsystems under near-space conditions[8]. These missions focused on low-cost experimental platforms rather than operational satellites.

AkSat U2 and ViskanSat (RHUMI-1)

In 2024, Grahaa Space developed two picosatellite demonstrators, AkSat U2 and ViskanSat, for flight abord the RHUMI-1 sub-orbital sounding rocket. Both spacecraft were designed as compact (<100 g) experimental units with identical architectures, enabling performance comparison during a single flight[12].

SOLARAS S2

SOLARAS S2[13] is a technology demonstration satellite scheduled for launch by December 20, 2025[14][15]. The satellite is aimed at validating nanosatellite subsystems, communication links, basic solar radiation analysis[4]. The satellite carries a beacon that transmits signals on amateur radio frequencies, which can be received and monitored by the SatNOGS community[16].
