Funktasy is a Canadian record label and entertainment company based in Montreal, Quebec. It gained national attention in 2025 when its verified social-media accounts were temporarily suspended by Meta Platforms, an incident covered by CBC News.[1] The story was later republished by MSN News and referenced by financial-analysis outlet TipRanks in coverage of Meta Platforms’ public-relations issues.[2][3] Funktasy is also represented internationally, with its founder Hoss listed as an artist at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) 2025.[4]

History

Funktasy was founded in 2010 by Canadian DJ and producer Hoss as an independent record label.[5] Initially focused on electronic-music releases, it later expanded into online media and educational programs.[6]

In 2017 the company launched Funktasy Magazine, a digital publication covering music, fashion, and entertainment.[6] In 2025 it introduced the sublabel Velvet Bass Records in collaboration with Italian production company Head Studios, focusing on electronic-music artists including Marko Leandro, Phil OD, Tony Kay, and Tantok.[7]

Funktasy Records

The flagship label releases music across pop, dance, house, EDM, hip hop, R&B, and rock genres.[6] Its catalog includes Canadian and international artists such as MC Mario, Hoss, KiVeli, Audio Jacked, Ayrsto, and Reddibo. Production and mastering take place primarily in Montreal, Toronto, and Los Angeles.[6] Notable releases include "No Xplanation" by MC Mario and Hoss, remixed by Swedish DJ StoneBridge, and KiVeli’s singles "Drunken State" and "Fall," which appeared on the Indigenous Music Countdown.[8][9]

Funktasy Magazine

Funktasy Magazine publishes interviews and features on music, fashion, and entertainment.[6] Interviewed artists have included Roger Sanchez, Robin S., Lost Frequencies, Paul Oakenfold, Darude, and Ferry Corsten. The magazine also produces editorials such as “Top Techno DJs” and “Top Female Singers” and has collaborated with audio-technology companies including Arturia, XLN Audio, Kiev Audio, and Novation.[6]

Funktasy Academy

Through Funktasy Academy, the company offers online courses and workshops in music production, A&R, artist development, and label management.[10] It partners with post-secondary institutions including Concordia University, McGill University, Humber College, Trebas Institute, and BIMM University to provide internships in A&R, marketing, design, social media, and editorial work.[11][12]

Funktasy Booking Agency

The Funktasy Booking Agency manages live performances and bookings for DJs, producers, and performers, arranging club events, festival appearances, and brand partnerships across North America and Europe.[6]
