Luiz Fernando Farias de Almeida (born 14 November 1989 in Ananindeua, Pará, Brazil), known professionally as FNX, is a Brazilian rapper, singer and songwriter based in Switzerland. Born in northern Brazil and raised between South America and Europe, he is known for developing an international music career outside Brazil while maintaining strong ties to Brazilian hip-hop culture. [1] [2]

Early life

[edit | edit source]

FNX was born in Ananindeua, in the metropolitan region of Belém do Pará, Brazil. He spent his childhood in northern Brazil, where he grew up with his family in modest conditions. In 2003, after his mother married a Swiss national, FNX moved to Switzerland at the age of 14. He initially lived in Turgi and later in Baden, where he attended school and began adapting to Swiss society. [2]

During his teenage years, FNX developed an interest in hip-hop culture and began experimenting with rap music. Music became an important means of expression and personal integration following his relocation to Europe. [2]

Career

[edit | edit source]

FNX began experimenting with rap compositions in the mid-2000s and started his professional music career in 2013 with the release of his first songs. In 2017, he signed a contract with the Brazilian label Beatloko, led by DJ Cia, and released the mixtape oSHOW, produced by Moreno Donadio. [3]

In 2018, FNX released several collaborative singles, including Mochila MCM and oJOGO with Raffa Moreira, as well as Mask Off featuring Predella of the group Costa Gold. The accompanying music video for Mask Off was filmed in Europe. [4]

In early 2020, FNX gained wider recognition in Switzerland when his track Rival was featured on Swiss public radio station SRF Virus, where it was selected as a highlighted track. [5]

In 2021, FNX released the single Balenciaga o Fendi in collaboration with Italian rapper MBoss. The project was recorded and filmed in Europe and reflected FNX’s continued engagement with international collaborations. [6]

Musical style

[edit | edit source]

FNX’s music combines elements of Brazilian hip-hop with international rap and trap influences. His lyrics alternate between politically engaged themes, personal narratives, love songs and party tracks. As a Brazilian artist living in Europe, his work often reflects experiences of cultural displacement, identity and integration. [2]
