History

[edit | edit source]

Language Perfect was the forerunner of EP. It was a vocabulary revision tool created by the brothers Shane and Craig Smith, inspired by Craig's experience in learning French and Japanese.

In 2007, the same brothers co-founded Education Perfect Ltd. Shane continued studying medicine at the University of Auckland until he took a year off in 2009 to sit in on database lectures of the computer science department.

By 2017, the two brothers sold the company to a private equity firm while having millions of users and was valued $435 million.

Five years later, in 2022, the founders "decided to branch out from teaching languages to cover other core-curriculum subjects."[3][4]
