Brooklyn Bedding is an American mattress manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, and direct-to-consumer distributor of sleep products headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. The company was founded in 1995 by brothers John and Rob Merwin.[1]

Brooklyn Bedding operates a 650,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Glendale, Arizona, where its mattresses are designed and assembled.[2]

In 2021, Brooklyn Bedding was acquired by Cerberus Capital Management and was merged together with Helix Sleep.[3]

History

[edit | edit source]

Brooklyn Bedding was founded in 1995 by entrepreneurs John Merwin and Rob Merwin. The company initially operated as a liquidation business, purchasing and reselling mattresses at discounted prices. The pair eventually started purchasing scrap materials and creating their own mattresses.[4]

Brooklyn Bedding began selling mattresses online after John Merwin imported the first roll-pack machine to the United States in 2008. The success of the bed-in-a-box concept led to the launch of Brooklyn Bedding's e-commerce website, BrooklynBedding.com.

Brooklyn Bedding is named after Merwin's daughter, Brooklyn, and is unrelated to the New York City borough.[5]

Acquisition

[edit | edit source]

In 2021, Cerberus Capital Management acquired Brooklyn Bedding and merged it with Helix Sleep, forming the foundation of 3Z Brands.[3][6] Since then, 3Z Brands has expanded its portfolio to include direct-to-consumer mattress brands Bear,[7] Nolah,[8] and Leesa[9] as well as wholesale brand Southerland.[10]

Manufacturing

[edit | edit source]

Brooklyn Bedding manufactures its products in Phoenix, Arizona, within a vertically integrated facility that includes in-house foam pouring, coil production, and cut-and-sew operations.[11] In 2024, the company announced a 250,000 sq. ft. expansion to support growing foam production and national distribution.
