The 2016 Spokane County Commissioner elections were held on November 8, 2016, following a primary election on August 5. Districts 1 and 2 were up for election. The 1st district seat was vacated by Todd Mielke on January 11, after becoming president of Greater Spokane Incorporated.[1]

Nancy McLaughlin was appointed to the 1st district seat on February 22, 2016, following the resignation of Commissioner Todd Mielke.[2] McLaughlin sought a full term, but finished third in the countywide August primary, eliminating her from the general election.[3] [4]

Shelly O’Quinn, was elected in 2012 with 54.56% of the vote. She faced little organized primary opposition and advanced easily to the general election.[11]
